  • I recently decided to transfer half my blog from one domain to another. The blog was becoming to big and content was becoming irrelevant.

The first blog is a boutique travel website for Bangkok.

Unique Bangkok Experiences | Boutique Bangkok City Guide

Now the 2nd site is a boutique travel blog for Southeast Asia. It is more personal.

Lifestyle and Travel in Southeast Asia | Living in Bangkok Blog

The 2nd site is still just an idea, I will use it to link sites where possible. I haven’t edited the template and have blocked Search Engines from indexing for now as I am pondering over 3 problems.

    1. Will I lose a lot of traffic and potential from the 1st Bangkok website or benefit from more relevant content and keywords.

    2. When should I allow indexing? Will old caches show duplicate content and possibly get me penalized by Google. Can I forward to the new domain location for those arriving at the Bangkok domain?

    3. Some content is relevant for both sites e.g. a Bangkok to Malaysia train journey. This will mean duplicate content. Should I block indexing on one of these but keep it on both websites?

Any ideas or help would be greats.

  • 1. Not if you can redirect the content to the new location.

    2. If you want to be searched, allow indexing.

    3. Post in one place and link to that from the other.

    Thanks Ipstenu.

Currently tweeking the 2nd site before going live. Will allow indexing soon and create 301s? to the new site.

Will the 2 domain posts still exist for Google searches or is the redirectling only for direct links? If both exist on google could I use different keywords for each or would this be wrong?

    Thanks again.

The two posts will exist for as long as they exist. That is, until you redirect, they will exist.

If the content of the post is 100% the same, you will get marked down by Google, which is why I say not to do that.
