There are a few plugins such as http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/duplicator
but it might also be a good idea to review this guide first http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress
Good luck 🙂
Thank you very much, those links are going to help me alot 🙂
Is there a plugin that only transfers the posts and pages? Because Duplicator transfers the entire website.
I know some themes come with XML files as “Dummy Content”. I was wondering how I could maybe create one, but a plugin sounds much simpler.
How can I actually put my posts and pages and stuff into this “test” XML file.
ok, nvm, I understand. I just click export to get the XML file. So I install the theme first, then install the XML? And all my posts, pages, and plugins (?) should be transferred?
You just use the data to fill in the site while you design it and delete the test posts afterwards. I posted that because you asked about XML files that some themes come with.
Yes, you can use the export feature but it does NOT export media (images, etc.) attached to the post. When you import you need to make sure you check off the box that says “download and import images”.
Ok, I have just tested exporting a XML file and importing it too another. All the images and videos were transfered, thanks 😀 The only question I now have is that in this import, it also imported all of my theme options (header, footer, sidebar) while I only want the posts and pages. Is there a way to make sure it is only those?
Nvm, I realized that all you have to do was select post only, although you can’t select anything other than that, guess you have to do two separate files for both posts and pages. Thanks so much for your help! I appreciate it greatly. Resolved!
Are you sure that came from the import file? Any theme specific stuff should not be in the import file.
yeah, I just selected “all content” and all the sidebars and css transferred as well.
