Transfer my WordPress.com Blog to WordPress.org

  • I have two questions.
    1) Can I transfer my WordPress.com Blog to WordPress.org? If so, how is it done?
    2) Can I sell my own advertising spots on a WordPress.org Blog?

Thank you in advance to everyone who can help me. If you can steer me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

    Thanks again,
    Doug

  • it’s fairly simple
assuming you have a domain name and a web host, you set wordpress up – either manually or with host’s one click install

after you have it installed, set up theme and plugins you want go to wordpress.com blog
    dashboard – tools – export
export the file to your pc

now log in to .org blog
    dashboard – tools – import
import the file you saved from .com

that’s about it and of course you can sell anything you like on your site

Excellent advice Samuel! Thank you so much. I will give it a try and let you know how it turns out.
BTW, do you have your own Blog on wordpress.org that I could check out?
I would like to see how some more experienced people have set up their .org blogs.
Any great samples would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks again!

my sites are private but look at the “Your WordPress” section for examples of newly created blogs

You can do it easily. Just do on YouTube. Then search your 1st question. You will see your solution with video!! I think that will be great. To sell your site you can contract here sell anything.

Now my username.wordpress.com blog has become the mainstay of my http://www.username.com page. How do I shift it to a link under http://www.username.com/blog and publish a separate landing page for http://www.username.com?
