[resolved] Tracking Outbound Links (15 posts)

    I'm an ebay affiliate using standard tools and phpbay to display products.

    I want to see all outbound links including click on ebay product links.

    I've installed some script found on your website (may be from a user.

    <script src="jquery.js"></script>
    <script src="dist/jquery.outbound-analytics.min.js"></script>
    <script>
    jQuery(function($) {
    // automatically tracks all outbound links (a[href]) in the DOM
    $.outboundAnalytics();
    });
    </script>

    Is this correct or do I need something else. Thus far the "Outbound Link" window is not populating.

    Thanks,

    Don

    I've never seen that script before. WP SlimStat doesn't require any third-party scripts in order to track outbound links.

    I see this has been marked resolved but I still have a follow-up.

    How long before outbound links are tracked? And as to my original post, will this also track Ebay affiliate links?

    I placed the plugin on 14 sites over 24 hours ago and no outbound links are being tracked. Is there another place to track exits?

    sorry about that script, I may have been picked up in the forum and have mistaken it as an add-on.)

    Thanks,

    Don

    Outbound links are tracked right away. Can you either post the URL of one of your sites or contact us at

    http://slimstat.getused.to.it/contact-us

    So that we can analyze the site and see if there are any problems? As for your other question, yes, all kind of outbound links should be tracked, as long as they are 'regular' links and not something added by jQuery and friends.

    Thank you,
    Camu

    Hi Camu

    I installed your plug-in yesterday and I think it's awesome, but I can see where Don is coming from as I installed it specifically because I wanted to track outbound links.

    Your plug-in gives an absolute ton of information, but I simply cannot find anywhere that has or displays a list of the most popularly clicked on outbound links with the number of clicks displayed. If I go to "Traffic" and enter a specific URL into the "Outbound links" equals and then drop the URL of one outbound link into the next column then yes, I can get information about that one link.

    But a display box with a list of the most popularly clicked outbound links similar to say, the most popular posts list, would be awesome because I could then tell which advertisers and affiliates are getting the most traffic from me.

    Is it possible to set something like that up?

    Cheers

    Bob

    One of my sites has finally shown on "outbound click".

    To go back to my original question however - Will affiliate ad links be tracked?

    One might be "rover.ebay.com/rover.........."

    Also I have a plugin for phpBay.com which shows listings from Ebay such as:

    "www.mydomain.com/item/full product information........."

    So far none of those types of links are being tracked. Note: they open in a new window so I don't know if this has any bearing on tracking.

    OK for Camu and Bob:

    I ran some tests and discovered that for my affiliate links the one's I make individually from Ebay (EPN) tools that are "rover.ebay.com...." appear in Tab "Content" the "Outbound Links" box.

    The links produced by the phpBay plugin show up in Tab "Content" the "Recent Bounce Pages" box.

    The SlimStat plugin is proving far superior then a number of methods I've tried to track this including Google Analytics where I needed to insert code into my WP-Content/Plugin........folder, which didn't always work.

    Now if I can determine how to find out if bots are clicking links because I'm not showing clicks but my numbers are rising at my dashboard at Ebay Partner Network.

    I have tried many things to block these including whole countries with no luck. These are worthless clicks and negatively affecting EPC.

    If this plugin can help I'd love to know how.

    Thanks,

    Don

    Unfortunately outbound clicks can only be tracked via Javascript, and most bots don't support it.

    Camu

    PS: we are working on an add-on for WP SlimStat to get more detailed information about your outbound links, like Bob suggested.

    That sounds great, thanks Camu. Will this be something that will update in the plug-in when updates are available, or is it an add-on that I will need to look out for? If I need to look out for it, where should I look?

    Cheers

    It will be a separate add-on.

    @bobinoz, I know this took longer than expected, but we're finally adding TOP OUTBOUND LINKS to version 3.4.1. Stay tuned!

    Hey, that's great Camu, I really appreciate you remembering my request. Looking forward to it.

    One other thing though, I did have a problem with the plug-in about two upgrades ago, since upgrading the "Right Now" statistics simply don't load, the page hangs and then goes to page not found. Worked fine before the upgrade. As I say, it started two upgrades ago, I checked again when you came up with the last upgrade, but it's still not working.

    Other stats pages do seem to work okay, have you had this problem reported from others?

    You may want to disable the 'Right Now Extended' option in the settings...

    Yes, that fixed it, thanks Camu.
