    I just installed 1.5.2, its not an upgrade just a new install.. What should happen when I click trackback? I was expecting a page or pop up saying " the trackback url for this..." ETC. but it doesnt do that , it just reloads the same page.. I tried other people's wp sites and the same happens.. is it my browser(AOL), am i misunderstanding, or is it a 1.5.2 glitch ?

  2. That's what's supposed to happen. You don't visit your trackback URLs. It's only for use on other blogs to ping back to your blog with.

    so if i want to trackback a wp post, what are the steps please and thanks

  4. Use the URL you had been clicking. If the blog you want to send a trackback to has permalinks on, it will be http://site.com/permalink/trackback/.

    Take that URL and drop it in the trackback box on the write post page.

    I talked briefly about it here http://archshrk.com/2005/11/trackback-for-beginners/
    the track back for that post is http://archshrk.com/2005/11/trackback-for-beginners/trackback/
    I would be very careful about using trackbacks. Just using a regular link in WP is usually enough.

    @archshrk,
    that's only one side of the story. I mean soon there will be opinions here saying that pinging is totally un-necessary, trackbacking is enough :)
    (I am not taking sides here!)
    Just a regular link in WP might be enough if you checked in Options > Discussion > the "Attempt to notify any Weblogs linked to from the article (slows down posting.)" box.
    I have it always unchecked...

    Hi all thanks for the interest. I used haloscan on blogger and was expecting something similar.. WP seems to assume all its users are a bit more techie minded and it's just intuitive, anyways I found this link all by myself and it fits what I want and may help anyone who looks this up in future..

    here's an afterthought, how difficult would it be to add an ALT tag to the trackback link ?
