Trackback URL referrals question
-
Hopefully this is the correct place to ask this question. Bear with me for a second because it’s kind of an odd question. My understanding of trackbacks is that someone links to your post, and then a link to their post shows up in the comments of your post.
On my stats page, in the section on pages that have been visited, I’ve noticed that a couple of the urls end in “/trackback”. For example, this URL shows up as being viewed 136 times this month:
http://www.patorjk.com/blog/2007/06/14/scatterbrained/trackback/
That’s an old post, and I can’t find anyone linking to it on google and it doesn’t have any trackback links in its comments section. I also can’t find any sites in my “Referring sites” section that would possibly link to those posts. I know it just points to the normal post, but why is there a “/trackback” on the end? How would someone get to my site via this URL? One theory I had was that it was spam bots visiting and their trackback comments were caught by Akismet, but only a few of my URLs show up with “/trackback” on the end, and tends to be the same URLs each month. Anyone have any ideas? Any insight would be appreciated.
