Trackback not working

For some time the trackback on my site didn’t worked. Now I found out what’s the problem, but don’t know why the code is this way.

In admin-footer.php and functions.php/spawn_pinger() there is a test if php_sapi_name() returns cgi. For my server this isn’t true because php is running as an apache module so php_sapi_name() returns ‘apache’.

Did I miss something? It should work as a module also, right?

Any help or hints would be really appreciated!
