 * I got an E-mail that I had to moderate a post from a person that submitted a
   trackback. All posts are held in moderation Que. But this person never provided
   a username or E-mail and he passed my captcha I think. The trackback of course
   was spam. I’m wondering how he did this? This is what the Apache log looks like.
   Notice the word trackback added to the end. I changed my site URL for privacy.

 * I have since disabled trackbacks and added a plugin called bad-behavior. I also
   use an anti-spam script called ZBblock, but this IP address wasn’t listed on
   the stop forum spam list that ZBblock uses. I did see this bot try prior to his
   post that was successful and that IP was blocked. I couldn’t add this IP to the
   stop forum spam database because like I said there was no username or E-mail
   address.

 * Hi
 * Trackbacks don’t come with a username or email as they’re actually links from
   another site, they’re not added via the comment form. This also means they don’t
   go through your captcha, so no need to worry that it’s not working.
 * You can choose to publish a trackback you’ve recieved, in which case the other
   blog owner gets a link to their site in your comments section, or you can delete/
   spam it in which case they get nothing.
 * Since you’ve disabled trackbacks that’s probably problem solved, but here’s a
   good article explaining what they’re all about: [http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/what-why-and-how-tos-of-trackbacks-and-pingbacks-in-wordpress/](http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/what-why-and-how-tos-of-trackbacks-and-pingbacks-in-wordpress/)

 * Thanks! I understand now. 🙂
