Support » Plugin: Mailchimp for WooCommerce » Crap – but finally got it to work

Doesn’t work. My site meets all the requirements and yet I cannot get this plugin to properly sync. I have tried every trouble-shooting suggestion Mailchimp provides. I have chatted online with their support. It simply does not work, which is too bad because it is a great concept. I would venture to say this is the worst WordPress plugin I have ever used (and I have endured some really bad plugins). This should be pulled from the WordPress plugin directory until it actually functions.

December 1, 2017 Update – After multiple chats with Mailchimp support (none of which really helped much), I have finally figured out how to make this plugin work on my site. Posting in the hopes that this helps others. I put my site into maintenance mode, then deleted this plugin. Then, I deactivated every other plugin except for WooCommerce. Then, I reinstalled this plugin, entered my Mailchimp API and allowed it to sync. For the first time ever, the sync actually worked. Once the sync was completed, I reactivated the other plugins and took my site out of maintenance mode. Moved over to my Mailchimp account and configured the various automations (the reason I wanted this plugin to begin with).

So far, so good. Orders are processing, and e-mails are sending. For whatever reason, this plugin does not seem to work unless the ONLY other thing active during install is WooCommerce.

I hope this helps someone else.

    Hey @mike1mus

Thanks for sharing your feedback here. I read your review and wanted to chime in and see if there was anything I could do to help lend a hand in troubleshooting this with you here. If you are interested, could you provide a few details and I can help take a look?

    – Could you elaborate on the process from setting up the plugin leading up to seeing the sync not work?
    – Does the sync appear to get stuck, or does it never sync any information at all?
    – Are you able to see any e-commerce data in the MailChimp account?
    – What is the site’s WooCommerce System Status Report?

Thanks in advance. I’ll keep an eye out if you’d like to troubleshoot further.

I have had these conversations multiple times with your support staff. Said another way, I have wasted a lot of time chatting with your support staff and they can never get this to work.

My WooCommerce System Status Report is fine. The plugin looks like it is syncing… but it never completes. I have over 1,000 products in my online store. Most times, it will appear to sync all the way to product 999 … and then not finish. The pattern is always sync, sync, sync … until you get to the next to the last item … and then fail.

The way your plugin is designed, you cannot turn on any sort of debug log until after a sync starts. That option doesn’t appear until AFTER your start a sync, which makes no sense at all. And then, of course, if you do turn on any sort of debug log, your plugin does not retain that setting if you try to sync again.

Ironically, if you use another third-party plugin for MailChimp NOT developed by you, everything works fine. I just plug in my MailChimp API and go. Based on all of the negative reviews I read on hear, and with speaking with others online, I know I am not the only one having issues with this plugin.

    Hey @mike1mus

I appreciate you sharing those candid thoughts. I do want to be sure our developers are able to track these sorts of issues when they crop up.

I agree that having logging available before the sync kicks off would be more useful and accessible. If possible, could you share with us anything that you do see in the Logs tab after the sync starts and then gets stuck? I’m going to be passing this to our development team and want to get a complete scope of the issues you’re seeing on the site.

    Thanks again Mike,

Well, I just tried this plugin again. I let it run for almost 36 hours. As is my usual experience, it syncs 1111/1112 products … and just gets stuck. Yes, three days of letting it stay stuck. It is always the same. It stops at the next to last product. In comparison, the plugin Facebook has for WooCommerce synced everything within an hour without any issues and is live now.

I have the most recent log. It was way too long to post here. I have given up trying to chat with your online support because that is a total waste of time. I am happy to share the log if someone wants to look through it. I just installed the update to your plugin and that makes no difference to this issue.

The other third-party Mailchimp I use for mailing list sign-ups continues to work flawlessly. Maybe you should hire those developers?

    Hey @mike1mus

Sorry to hear of these continued issues. Our team would be glad to record this logging and investigate for future updates to the plugin if you’re able to share the site’s WooCommerce System Status Report and the most recent logging you’ve encountered.

I can certainly understand your choice for going with a different plugin moving forward. If there are any other questions we can answer, feel free to let us know.

I am happy to supply both if it will help your company fix this plugin for all the people having issues with it. The log is much too long to post here, however.

    Hey @mike1mus

I’m afraid that we do not have a private messaging system for the forums.

That being said, I have gone ahead and reached out to one of my contacts at MailChimp Support to get in touch with you via their Email Support channel. They’ll be able to collect that information and pass it back along to us so we can use this information to improve the plugin.

You should be hearing from MailChimp Support shortly at your account’s primary contact email address. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,
    Malachite
