2 days ago, my site’s top/bottom navigation menu disappeared (it usually shows up to the right of the top logo):

    http://www.americanmanganeseinc.com

    A few notes:

    • No one had logged in to make this change, it was just gone.

    • The admin is not set-up to auto-update (hence the old version of WordPress I’m running) to the latest version of WordPress.

    • I have looked at other forum notes which direct me to go to Appearance > Menus and make changes in that area, but it’s showing no menus in this area… as if one never existed.

    • It runs a custom theme that’s worked perfectly for a number of years now.

Could the site have been hacked?

Any other suggestions as to how this could have happened?

  • Could the site have been hacked? Possibly. You are running WordPress 3.1.1, which is severely outdated.

You should update WordPress, your plugins, and your theme. Because your version of WordPress is so out of date, this will cause things to break. But it is the only way to ensure that your site is secure.
