Support » Plugin: Admin Menu Editor » Toolbar Editor Add-on (Per User)

    Hi Janis,

How does one specify the users that can see certain toolbar menus, somewhat like the admin menu editor plugin, where I can specify certain menus for certain users.

I am currently doing this using code. Which contains a lot of if statements. Could you assist? As this is a premium add on that I thought would definitely cover this.

Sorry, but there is currently no way to do that with this add-on. However, it’s definitely something that I will consider adding in the future.

As to why it doesn’t have that feature yet:

This is a very new add-on. In fact, it was released less than a month ago. I was not sure what kind of features people would need the most, so I decided to make the first version very simple and then develop it further based on user feedback.

One other reason why I left this particular feature out for the initial release was that toolbar menus don’t really have permissions in the same way that admin menus do. The WordPress Toolbar is just a nested list of links. You can hide a link from a user, but that won’t stop them from accessing the linked page in other ways, such as simply typing in the URL.

Then I must add, a very well done to you on an awesome add on. Your plugin works at its best in conjunction with a capabilities plugin, like Members or User Role Editor, which handle the permissions on accessing certain pages.

Your plugin comes into play when hiding the comments admin tab when it’s connected to the edit post capability and not moderate comments capability, which is not quite neat when you don’t want a user to see the admin tab but still edit posts. Admin menu editor also gives the nice “You don’t have sufficient permissions…” message when restricting a user from seeing a page, so this is awesome – and like you said, Toolbar editor is an add on, and relies on Admin menu editor, so if you hide the comments admin tab, you might want to hide the comments from the Toolbar for that user as well, as once it’s hidden with Admin menu editor, you get the “You don’t have sufficient permissions…” so it defeats the purpose of being in the toolbar.

I must say Money well spent!

Just purchased this plugin for the same reason as Yusri. I hope that you will choose to integrate permissions-specific functionality to the toolbar in the [near] future. I understand the challenge you mention above, but I suspect you’ll figure out a smart workaround! 🙂 Good luck. And thanks for the plugins. Very useful!

Just purchased this plugin for the same reason as Yusri.

Maybe having more people buy the plugin for the same reason, we could get the functionality.

Unless you open-source it and let us contribute 🙂
