The WP toolbar does not display on the front end. I have the option checked. I have tried this with two different themes activated, so I don’t think it is theme-related

  • Have you tried with different browsers?

Yes, Matthew. On my Mac I tried in both Chrome and Safari. On Windows in Chrome. Thank you.

Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

Thank you again Matthew. I have deactivated all plugins before, which did not fix the problem. But I will try it yet again. I have been trying a couple of different templates on my site, and they have required different plugins–which means that I have installed and deleted quite a few.

There is another issue that may or may not be related. This has happened with each of the templates I have experimented with, and regardless of any plugins installed. When I activate the Customizer, the appropriate options appear on the left side of the screen and everything works as expected. But in the middle of the screen there is no preview. Instead I see the wp-admin login with a message that says that my session has timed out. If I re-enter my password it reports that I logged in successfully, but within a few seconds the session timed out message reappears. It is not true that I am logged out, since I am able to make changes and view the site like always. The issue remains that I see the WP toolbar on the backend, but not on the front end and the expected preview does not appear when using the Customizer.

My gut is telling me that this an issue with the WP installation itself–who knows, some configuration file corrupted or whatever. Separately I will check with the hosting provider to see if there is a way to refresh or reinstall WP there. I used QuickInstall to do the WP installation.

    Again, thanks for your suggestions.

When did you first notice this problem? After you updated to 4.3.1 or?

Version 4.3.1 is the version that was installed only two days ago. First time WP has been installed on this machine.

Have you tried reinstalling WordPress through Dashboard>Updates and then clicking reinstall?

Yes Matthew. I just finished reinstalling via the hosting provider’s cPanel. Everything looks good now. Thanks for your time and help.

Awesome! Glad you were able to resolve the issue.
