 * I am having three major problems with my new WordPress site that is hosted by
   with 1and1. This is my first WordPress site and I need things explained in simple
   terms. First off, I can’t get any posts to show up on my site. All it shows is
   the 1and1 page that says this domain name has just been registered. How do I
   go about fixing that? My second problem is that I can’t get the theme I downloaded
   to work because it says that i need at least PHP 5 which I don’t. I only have
   PHP 4.4.9. The third thing is that I can’t update to 3.0.4. Every time I try
   it says “Downloading update from [http://wordpress.org/wordpress-3.0.4.zip…&#8221](http://wordpress.org/wordpress-3.0.4.zip…&#8221);
   and stays on that. How do I download the update? These may be simple things to
   fix but I can’t figure it out. Any help would be much appreciated.

 * You can enable PHP 5 – [http://faq.1and1.com/scripting_languages_supported/php/5.html](http://faq.1and1.com/scripting_languages_supported/php/5.html)
 * After that, the upgrader SHOULD start to work. As for the placeholder domain
   page, you probably still have an index.HTML file in the folder with your WordPress
   files.

 * Every time I try to add that line to the .htaccess thing it won’t go back in
   over the original in FileZilla. It says critical error then stays how it was.
   Also, how do get the index.HTML folder out of the WordPress files?

 * I enabled PHP5 and I was able to download 3.0.4 but I still can’t get anything
   to show up on the the site. It still has the placeholder page. I’ve looked for
   the index.HTML file but I can’t find it. What part of the WordPress folder would
   it be in or could it be a different problem all together?

 * It isn’t in the WP folder. It’s in the root. It’ll either be called index.html
   or home.html.

 * I know this is going to sound stupid but where and what is the root?

   Anyone know why?

 * I just found another file called index.html in the traffic folder but it would
   let me delete it. What should I do for that?

 * You may need to ask 1&1 directly WHICH file you need to remove.
 * Your ‘root’ is your main html folder. It’s normally called ‘www’ or ‘public_html’–
   Check the DOCUMENTATION at 1&1 to sort out which one yours is 🙂
