Support » Plugin: Page Builder by SiteOrigin » Too Many Pictures Clogging Backend of Site?

So, I’m using Site Origin Page Builder, which I generally love. Lately, however, when adding new pages, which tend to be photo-heavy, the page builder and admin panel becomes extreeeeeeeemely slow. Like, when I upload a picture into a cell, it takes more than a minute to confirm that it’s added, and sometimes the page just crashes without loading. It’s a huge problem, because it’s taking me about 1/2 an hour to upload just a segment of photos and their descriptions on a page. 🙁

I am frustrated, because the structure of my site isn’t conducive to galleries. I need to be able to add or subtract any picture and description I want, at any time, without messing up the layout of the entire page. I thought putting individual pictures and their descriptions in individual cells would work, and it does, but it’s unbearably slow. The front end of the site loads beautifully, so I don’t understand what the problem is. Is there just a limit to how many cells I can reasonably have?

This is a product site, and I really need to get through this roadblock so that I can take it live. Any and all suggestions welcome. Is it unreasonable to think that I can have a bunch of pictures in their own cells? 🙁 If it is, what can I do instead?

    Hi outwestsaddl

This does sound less than ideal. How many photos are you adding to a single page? I’ll try recreate this issue on my development server. Hopefully I’ll be able to fix it. Just want to know where the issue is kicking in.

Also, do you have any other plugins installed besides Page Builder?

Hi Greg, thanks so much for offering to look into it.

I am building a completely new website for the small business I work for, because the old one is very outdated (from 2001).

Some of the pages, which don’t contain too many photos work great using SOPB, but ones such as our “past made chinks” page is very photo-heavy. The owner of the company would really like to preserve the look/feel of larger photos on one page, in a more updated fashion than the old website. Trying to achieve this has been my main stumbling point, because our customers need to be able to see our examples easily, in order to make choices on what they would like in their own order, which means that a thumbnail/gallery makes extra, unwanted steps for their user experience, if they have to navigate through a lightbox with 100-200 pics, for the largest pages. Page Builder is perfect in so many ways, because of the amount of control I can have in the layout, but this aspect of it is really, really holding me up.

This is a page on the new site, that I am happy with layout-wise, although I would like to fine-tune some of the image sizes, more.

Your thoughts on all of this are most welcome!!

I do have some other plugins. Some I have installed to try and find an alternate solution to page builder, and some for other reasons.
I have Akismet, Justified Image Grid, Motopress, Nexgen Gallery, Nexgen tinyMCE Photo Description, Updraft Plus, and ultimateTinyMCE (I was trying to find a way to not have to past in CSS every time I want to add bold text or a link, which I have also never solved..)

I spent this weekend working on a few ways to drastically improve performance, especially when using a lot of widgets.

Keep in mind, this is still very much under development, but if you’d like to do some testing in a non-production environment, that’d be much appreciated 🙂

I think you’ll like the speed.

Thank you so much Greg. I’m super impressed and excited about what you’ve done here. It is miles faster, and although there is still a small delay on our largest pages, I think it’s workable.
Can I ask one more question? Is there any way to not have to copy-paste or write short code every time I want to add bold to my words in a text widget? I am constantly adding a section of text from our old site, and need to bold several words from it, because it doesn’t copy the format automatically, but not all of the words at once. It would be amazing to be able to just highlight and click the “b” button!

Once again, thanks a million for the new-found speed!! If I can help you with testing any way, aside from what I’m doing on our site let me know!

Really glad to hear you noticed the speed improvements. A lot of work went into this update 🙂 You might have noticed that 1.4.4 is available – this is the official release of this new speedier version, so you don’t need to use the development ZIP I posted anymore.

As for your other question, I think Black Studio TinyMCE is exactly what you’re looking for. It’ll give you a TinyMCE widget, which is full rich text editor like the standard WordPress visual editor. It has a bold button.

It looks like Black Studio does solve that problem! Hooray!!
As I’ve kept working using your program, I’ve been keeping a running list of some things that I think would be really helpful to people creating larger pages while using it. They aren’t really questions, but rather, wishes… I don’t know if you’re interested, or if this is the right place to post that? Do let me know if you are.

    All the best!
