• I installed the plug in and tried to run my first scan. Got this error.

[Aug 21 19:20:54] Contacting Wordfence to initiate scan
[Aug 21 19:20:56] Scan terminated with error: WordFence API error: Wordfence is currently experiencing high load and our servers are giving scan priority to paid customers. Please try your scan again in a few seconds.

Waited 30 minutes and tried again. Same issue. if this is the error we are going to get then they should only cater to paid members. That’s obviously who they care about…

I was not opposed to paying after trying it out. But I could not even run my first scan. Thanks for nothing guys. Huge Fail in my book, no matter how good your product may have been.

  • I’ve been using the free version of this plugin for over a year now, and have to say that I have never once seen this message. Maybe you were unlucky, as I would imagine that if this was happening regularly, then the support forum would have registered it.

I’m sure this was annoying for you on first installation, but maybe give it another try, as I’ve found the free version to be an excellent, reliable and progressive security plugin.

The same “Wordfence is currently experiencing high load” message occurred today on a client site. Fortunately after a few retries and 20 minutes later, it worked again. Clearly Wordfence is becoming deservedly popular with webmasters but perhaps also a target for thwarted villains.
Let’s hope increased Wordfence premium income brings better throughput and resilience for all Wordfence users.

I hear you. Perhaps I haven’t noticed this as I only occasionally manually run the scans, relying on the automatic daily scans instead.

It does looks like this issue is soon to be resolved.

From Mark in the support forum:

Hi wwwolf. Just try a scan in a few seconds and you should be fine. We’re in the process of upgrading our infrastructure so this issue is temporary. We got slammed with growth during the last 2 weeks so we had to prioritize scans for paid customers for a little while, but it’s only temporary.
