Large menus are a pain to manage in WP-admin. I regularly troubleshoot websites, and come across menus consisting of hundreds of items and a lot of hierarchy.

It would be a great help if it were possible to toggle a menu section (top level page + all pages below) so you have some kind of overview.

Perhaps having “menus consisting of hundreds of items” IS the problem?

Well, for some websites it’s reality. This is not very constructive comment.

Even with a “megamenu”, hundreds of items would be a very poor way to organize content. Better to organize the pages into a few major categories, and provide an index or HTML sitemap page pointing to the “hundreds of items”.

Maybe you’re right, but you’re missing the point. The Menu page is hard to manage even with dozens of entries. It very quickly involves a lot of scrolling and overview is lost.
