• Hi all

I’ve been getting a few requests from people to create a website for their businesses. I studied web development, but only as a basic means to prepare for studying other programming languages and I’ve never actually developed a website before. I have a feeling that I can make this a side business.

Bear with me if my questions are stupid:

I read somewhere that wordpress is for creating blog sites, does that mean I won’t be able to use wordpress to create just normal websites?

After I install wordpress, will that come with some form of IDE or will I still be using my own text editor?

I’m familiar with html and a bit of javaScript, but I believe wordpress uses something called php, should I be worried?

Also, maybe this question is out of place here, but please explain to me the concept of me being able to host other peoples websites for them. Is that what multiple domains means? if so, will these people be able to upload content on their site themselves? or will I always have to do that for them : – (

And last but not least, I presume it depends on a lot of things, but please try: how much do you recommend I charge for developing the website, host it for them, and for uploading content whenever they need me to?

your response will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Kay

No. WordPress has long since evolved into a content management system and a huge number of people use it to run their non-blog sites.

It really depends upon what you want to do. WP has 2 inbuilt editors for adding content to your site – the Visual (WYSIWYG) editor based on TinyMCE and the Text editor that can be used if you want to add your own markup.

No. You do not have to know PHP to use WordPress.

I’m sorry that that kind of question is well beyond the remit of these forums. Try a general webmastering forum for this kind of advice.
