To Join or Login in Main Page -Page-

Hi to all..
I have a Page which is set up as a static Main Page.. a Intro page so to say..
How would I add in the page coding for them to click on “join” or “login” it will either go to registration or.. to the one of two options (not sure if its possible)

1- when they click on login.. can they get logon screen but return back to the site not dashboard!
2- go to logon on screen and log to the front page but no longer show the static fornt page???

mainly i just want the user to be able to go to the site and not the dashboard when they log on..

but i am unsure to “code” this in the “writing a page”

any help anyone??
