Tips for developing Category Templates

  • Hello. I am going to try to get Category Templates working on my new site. I’ve read some posts, and it seems complex but do-able. I was wondering if WP users who have got this feature to work could offer some words of advice to me as I start out? Mistakes to avoid? Helpful tips? All that kind of really good stuff that isn’t in the Codex but is something you learned along the way. THANKS a MILLION!!! 😀

  • I’m new at this. So far I did 1 category with a different template. All the rest use the default category template automatically. The one that’s different, uses a template called category-9.php of course it’s category ID #9. I don’t recall telling it to use that template, it just knows to look for that filename. I copied parts of index.php and renamed it to create this category template file.

I could use more tips and examples of what to change on a category template, from the template tags to the CSS options. Thanks for any links!!

    The basics are here.
    More exactly: Category_Templates
