 * Hey!
 * LOVING this plugin so far. One little glitch I’ve noticed:
    1. I set all my questions
   paginated individually. 2. I set a timer for the entire quiz (not per question)
   at 150 seconds. 3. when I go to the page, the timer is already running!
 * Any idea on how to fix it so the clock doesn’t start until question 1 comes up?
 * Thanks again
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Ftimer-starts-before-the-first-question%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)

 * Hi jloram,
    this is unfortunately not a glitch, but something I did on purpose.
 * First, quick advice: do not enable pagination for the first question. This way
   the quiz is not hidden behind the first “next” button.
 * If you are not using the ad feature, then it will work just as you want it to,
   IE: The quiz does not start until a user selects a “Start quiz” button. Then
   the quiz begins and so does the timer.
 * However, since you are using Google Ads, this is not really possible. This is
   because of the way that Google displays ads. Basically, you cannot place an ad
   in a “hidden” area – it’s actually against their TOS and is also why you are
   getting some of your ads “stacked” – because Google tries and forces the ads
   to be visible. This is why if you use the ad setting, I treat the quiz as if
   it’s already started, thus mitigating the worst of the Google ads issue.
 * I wish I had a better answer for you, but unfortunately, I do not at this time.
   The best advice I can give is not not paginate your first question, and to perhaps
   extend the timer a bit to compensate for the time a user might take to read the
   intro.
 * Another option is to not use the ad setting in HD Quiz and to instead place the
   code directly to your theme (best place is probably your theme `footer.php` file).
   This way Google decides and places the ads _after_ the page loads which should
   give you the best of both worlds. This will also enable adds for all of your
   pages/posts.
 * And the last option is to remove the code from the HD Quiz settings, and to do
   what I previously recommended in one of your last support requests here: [https://wordpress.org/support/topic/adsense-code-not-working-3/#post-13070019](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/adsense-code-not-working-3/#post-13070019).
   This will work almost like the footer edit above, except it will only add the
   code to pages that have a quiz on them.

 * Ok, wow, thanks so much. Lots of options. I think I’ll try a few different things
   to see what works/looks the best, starting with not paginating #1.
    If I knew
   of another/better monetization scheme other than adsense, I’d jump on it instead
   ha ha! Thanks again, Jimmy

 * Actually, what I think I’m going to do, is simply post the adsense code right
   after the HD Quiz shortcode. That way it doesn’t mess with the functionality
   of the plug in.
 * I’d love it if I could have my quizzes work like this:
 * >Opening Welcome Page with a Start Quiz button.
    >Clicking Start Quiz brings
   up Q1 with a 15 second timer. >After Q5, an adsense ad appears with a SKIP or
   NEXT button below it. >After Q10, same thing with the ad, you know, basically
   filling the space where the question would be. >End of quiz, another ad with
   a SEE RESULTS button. >Finally, final results all on one page (like it works
   as is).
 * If there’s a way to make that work with HD Quiz, I’d be SUPER thrilled.
    As of
   right now, I am only VERY thrilled with HD Quiz, ha ha. And regardless, it’s
   going to be my quiz builder for the foreseeable future. Thanks!!!
