    The $content_width setting will indeed limit the width of all media inserted into your posts. You can read more about it here:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Content_Width

    If your theme allows for larger images, you can change the content_width value to 1024.

    When I set to 1024, in work fine in Chrome and Firefox, but not in IE, so sad

    If it doesn’t work in all browsers, you will want to look at your theme stylesheet and search for CSS rules that would limit the width of your images.
