  • Hi,

I’m searching for a plugin which is searching for unused media.
Also I’m wondering why a image is created multiple times with the ending of its resolution. What is this for?

    Best regards

    very awesome

WordPress’s way of dealing with images is a little bit less then ideal, as you’ve seen. When you upload an image file to the media library it creates all of the thumbnail sizes that are registered in the system. That’s why you get all of those images.

The problem with deleting usused images is… the system doesn’t know which images you’re using where. You could remove all images of one size, but what happens if you’ve got a couple of images of that size scattered through some posts?

I know that there’s a few thumbnail regeneration plugins, and from what I’ve seen at least some of them delete all of the old thumbnail images before it recreates the ones for the sizes that are set now. Unfortunately I think that’s about the best that you’ll be able to do.
