Support » Plugin: EWWW Image Optimizer » Thumbnails wrong after optimisation

  • Resolved kinghill

    I’m consistently experiencing a very strange behavior:
    our website allows user to upload their profile photos. Every so often I need to do 1:1 crop of their submissions so that the images comply to our website layout requirements. After that, I have to regenerate thumbnails for these images, which is kind of to be expected. Fro this I installed the Force Regenerate Thumbnails by Pedro Elsner.
    If EWWW Image Optimizer is activated when the thumbnails are being regenerated, the resulting thumbnails consistently revert back to the original aspect ratio and do not respect the new 1:1 crop at all.
    The only way for me to get around this, is to de-activate EWWW for thumbnail regeneration and then re-activate it again.

    Any ideas what is going? And/or how to prevent this?

    Thank you!

    Hi kinghill,

    We prevent the image editor from generating new versions of images except in specific instances. However, there is an override that you could use to tell the plugin to “backoff.” Editor Overrite

    Hello and thanks for your reply!
    But unfortunately, adding define( 'EWWWIO_EDITOR_OVERWRITE', true ); to my wp_config.php didn’t do the trick.

    define( 'WP_DEBUG', false );
    define( 'EWWWIO_EDITOR_OVERWRITE', true );
    /* That's all, stop editing! Happy publishing. */

    Perhaps I described my issue not fully or correctly, so I decided to make screenshots for you. They are numbered and can all be found here:!AqyHmqxK9rN_uthKld-_Dr086WnXIg?e=8bVNAR

    1. Divi Gallery after first EWWW optimization (=my problem)
    2. Image Details Media Library
    3. Force Regenerate Thumbnail in Media Library
    5. Divi Gallery after Force Regenerate – EWWW deactivated (=all OK)
    6. Force Regenerate Plugin Result EWWW activated
    7. Divi Gallery with activated EWWW (problem returned)

    I hope you can help – I’m really at a loss what is happening here.

    I think at this point I’m probably going to suggest two things, the first being to try a different thumbnail regenerator, as that one hasn’t been updated in 5 years unfortunately. The second being, if that doesn’t work, to contact us directly so we can look more deeply into it:

    OK, thanks.
    It seems we are still miscommunicating. The other plugin is not the issue. In fact, It corrects the problem that EWWW is causing.

    But never mind, I contacted you directly on your website now. Hope they can shine a light on this…
