The featured images on the Homepage (split view 2 columns) are the full size featured images. that causes many MB on loading the site. is it possible to downsize the images to thumbnails in the theme?

i think it would be nice to have special thumbnail sizes for that?

    thanks

That’s a good idea and I can add this in the next update for Startup Blog.

Right now, Startup Blog will always use the “full” image size. I’ll create a new smaller image size and fallback to the “large” image size (~1,000px) if the custom size is not available.

As a side note, once the new image size is registered, all future images you upload will have this size auto-generated by WordPress, but all images already uploaded to your site won’t be affected. You can use the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin to update all existing images.

    Hi Ben,

    is this request now implemented?

Yes, this update was added in v1.23 of Startup Blog. Here’s a link to the commit on Github.

The two column layouts now use Featured Images that are 640px wide instead of their full size.
