    As for your problem — are you by any chance using any other plugins with which you are inserting your images in (if so, which one)? Have you made any other changes with your images or with your Media Gallery recently, that might have changed any settings? Any newly installed plugins what-so-ever?

    Sorry for all of these questions, but I’m quite eager to get this sorted for you ASAP!

    Also — try to set that image from one of you blog posts as featured and let me know if this reverts your thumbnail to the original one or not.

    No, I’m not using another plugin to insert images, and I haven’t made any changes.

    But I had activated W3 Total Cache, and your question about new plugins prompted me to de-activate and re-activate it, and that seems to have done the trick!
