Images are displayed nicely in lightbox. However, thumbnails are not appearing. After inspecting element, we found that the URL for the thumbnail image resource is malformed and appears to be http://www.domain.com/https://www.domain.com/thumbnail.jpg (where as you can see, the domain name is duplicated).

When inspecting the element (thumbnail), the error displayed is (obviously) 404 Not Found. If you removed the duplicated domain, the thumbnail can be found and displayed.

We have tried regenerating the thumbnail but to no avail, issue is still there.

    Urgent assistance required please!!

  • Hey!

This issue will typically indicate the URLs in the database were incorrectly updated at some point. Possibly you migrated the site recently or updated URLs to move to/from SSL (https).

You’ll want to use the plugin Better Search Replace (https://wordpress.org/plugins/better-search-replace/) to edit the incorrect URLs in the database. Be sure to do a full back-up of your site (files and database) before using this plugin as you will not be able to undo the changes it makes to the database.

Thanks @ericakfranz, I will consider this as an option. When we (my team and I) looked at the URLs for thumbnails in the DB, everything seems ok ie. the URLs do not have the duplicated domain pre-fixed. Do you think running the Better Search Replace plugin will help in this case?

Does anyone else have better suggestions?

    Hi Ma185 🙂

As Erica suggested, yes, that would be your best foot forward.

    Thanks
