    Hi @blindpet, it’s been a while!

I’m not near a computer right now so, I’ll make sure to have a closer look once I am.

    With that being said:

    • Recently hasn’t been updated in a while now, and there were no changes in the latest version that would have an impact on how the plugin handles images.
    • I checked that URL from my phone and I’m seeing an image (a folder with a console window next to it). What am I missing?

    Hey, long time indeed!

Thank you. I wonder if it is the EWWW image optimizer plugin conflicting?

That URL was showing a 404 until I manually created the thumbnail and put it in the right folder 😀

No idea, to be honest. I don’t use that plugin (nor Cloudflare actually).

I’ll set up a test site and install EWWW Image Optimizer. Is there any particular setting I need to change or the defaults are good enough to reproduce the issue?

The defaults should be sufficient, I can of course also provide admin access to my site via email if that will help. I only noticed it recently because I have not published a post in a few months so prior to my last post it was working fine.

I do have a post scheduled to publish next week so maybe that would be a good time for you to see it broken in action?

Basically the image is referenced as you can see from my original link but the image simply wasn’t there.

Thanks for your support and fantastic work over the years 🙂

Ok, just set up a test site with Recently and the EWWW Image Optimizer plugin. I’m not sure if the latter is working though, I can’t find a “compress/optimize images now” button.

Anyways, Recently did generate thumbnails for posts that had a Featured Image assigned to them. Those that don’t have one naturally get the default, ugly thumbnail instead. So, to me, it seems to work as expected.

Edit: ah, there’s a bulk optimize link at the top of EIO’s Settings page. The plugin could use some UX/UI polishing 😛

Anyways, to test whether Recently can create thumbnails, I flushed its Image Cache (Settings > Recently > Tools) to force it to recreate the thumbnails after optimizing them with EIO. Again, everything went without a hitch.

I appreciate you checking! I am wondering if it is somehow related to me renaming the URL of the latest post after publishing.

I will publish the new one next week and see if it still happens, maybe it was a one-off.

No, that won’t make any difference. Recently uses the post ID (which in theory is immutable, except when importing posts from one site to another) to obtain data from your site’s database / interact with WordPress, so changing stuff like the title or the permalink slug won’t have any impact in how the plugin works.

Well, you don’t really need to wait that long. You can flush Recently’s thumbnails cache (like I did) to force it to recreate them right now. If it fails to generate the thumbnails again then we can try to debug the issue. And remember to clear CF’s cache as well to make sure it picks up these new images. Caching ca be a pain in the neck if you forget about it hehe.

OK cool. I am backing things up now and I will empty the recently thumbnail cache and empty all page caches to see if they get regenerated

That all worked, no idea why it was blank before since the featured image has been set before it was published but I’m glad this fixed it, thanks for your help 🙂
