Thumbnails Have Stopped Appearing

  • Just like Donny in “The Big Lebowski” I think I’m probably out of my element here but I thought I throw this out and see if there might be an easy fix.

My website is http://www.barefootfilms.net. The site is a theme I purchased almost 2 years ago and I’m using WordPress 3.0.1

The problem is the thumbnails for every page have stopped appearing. The links to the individual pictures and videos still work, just no thumbnails.

I haven’t made any changes or additions to the site in quite a while…no plugins, no posts, no added videos and the site has been with the same provider since I launched it. I went out of town last week and when I returned the site was broken.

Any chance this might be a simple fix?

Does the theme use timthumb to generate thumbnails?

Yeah, that’s why I hesitated to even post. I just don’t know enough to answer what I assume is a basic question like yours. I purchased the theme from Theme Forrest and an acquaintance loaded it up for me. Reading instructions that came with the theme, I figured out how to do the minimum for what I needed by using the Dashboard. I don’t know what drives the bus.

As this is a commercial theme, you need to seek support from the theme vendors. However, I suspect that it has either become obsolete and no longer works correctly in WP 3.2.1. Or the theme uses a script called timthumb (to generate the image thumbnails) which was recently found to create a significant security vulnerability. Some hosts have disabled all older version of timthumb for this reason.

Thanks for taking time to respond. I’ll continue to seek input but I suspect I’m going to need to contact someone who knows what they’re doing, I sure don’t. I do know I’m not running WP3.2.1 but am still on 3.0.1. I did a quick search on Timthumb and believe that I don’t use it. I’ve always resized and cropped every picture in Photoshop. Again, thanks for responding.
