  • Resolved 4li4s

I am desperately seeking advice on how to improve on an existing site that I am converting to WP.

The specific problem I need help with is how to make each of the gallery thumbnails open within the main content area without changing the page. An example of one of the galleries is at barrymckayart.

At the moment, if you click on a thumbnail, the image loads a new page. Thus, an html page for each and every image of all four galleries!

So far while searching, some of the solutions have been to use iFrames or javaScript. From what I have read, I am reluctant to use iFrames and haven’t a clue on javaScript! My current understanding is limited to HTML5 and CSS3. The site already has numerous scripts that may affect the overall speed (scripts such as respond, html5 shim, nivoslider, etc…).

Would anyone be so kind as to point me in the right direction on a possible solution? I thought that perhaps I needed an image gallery plugin to solve the problem – thumbnails appearing in the sidebar, with the larger images in the main content area.

Really, any advice would be genuinely appreciated. I am currently going through the Codex as well as the Stack Overflow website but getting a little overwhelmed with the script side of things.

    Thank you in anticipation.

  • You have to use Javascript for this. Sorry no shortcut. If you can learn HTML5 and CSS3, you can learn javascript.

This is a simple one, you can simply copy and paste the js, then adjust css to your need

Thank you so much for your reply, Hieu. I will make learning Javascript a priority. It’s encouraging that you say that I can learn Javascript if I can learn HTML5 and CSS3!

I really appreciate you taking the time to reply and for providing me a link. This is exactly what I need to know.

    Thank you!
