[Resolved] Thumbnail Image Options on Facebook
For some reason, I am only able to select from one thumbnail image option (instead of lots of thumbnail image options) when I share a link on Facebook. I am trying to select the first sidebar image (JetPack sidebar Image), but I am only able to select the second sidebar image (also a JetPack sidebar image). Can someone please help me?
I see you use Yoast’s SEO plugin.
on http://www.domain.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=wpseo_social you can enter an image for the home page you want to use when sharing on Facebook and also a standard image (when none is provided).
Please keep in mind that if you change this image and you already tried to share it, Facebook has cached it.
If you want to share it with the new image, give it a false variable or so like http://www.domain.com/?v=1 which also ends up at home, but FB will see this as a new URL and therefor hasn’t cached it before.
If you have resolved this, please use the dropdown on the right to mark this topic ‘Resolved’.
HI, Beee –
Thanks so much for replying!
Yes, I use Yoast’s SEO plugin. Can you please walk through the false variable steps with me? I don’t think I’m doing them correctly at all. I just tried FB, and it is still coming up with the old image.
I just checked your source code, which you can also do by right clicking your site and choose view source, or ctrl+u for most browsers.
search for og:image
The image used now is http://www.abolitionistapproach.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/The_World_is_VeganV1.png
Plz read the part about Facebook caching…
Hi, Beee –
That’s the thing. I don’t understand how do to do the false variable steps to get around the Facebook caching. (I’m not a programmer.)
But where do I put “http://www.abolitionistapproach.com/?v=something1”? Do I rename the image because I tried renaming the image to V1, but it was still cached. (Sorry, I am not understanding.)
as URL that you want to share on Facebook instead of http://www.abolitionistapproach.com
It’s not working for me. It’s still bringing up the Commentary image. I must be doing something wrong.
I get the same but don’t know what causes it… the image is set properly but why it takes the commentary image, I don’t know.
Maybe look here for some more support ?
Hi, Beee –
Thanks for your help! I will look there for some more support.
Would you mind deleting/removing my actual URL from these comments?
