Thumbnail cropping issue/bug

Hi there,

First and foremost, thanks for the recent update of your brilliant plugin. It’s great to see that it’s getting better and better and I completely understand your considerations expressed in the ‘[PLEASE READ THIS] About Plugin Support‘ thread. Fair enough, and again, thanks for your great contribution to the WordPress community.

I hope though that it’s not inappropriate (keeping your announcement in mind) to point out an issue I’ve experienced with the recent update of the plugin. My situation is that I’ve previously, and with great success, used Retina together with Manual Image Crop as a way of cropping my thumbnails whilst also serving 2x images. This has been particularly effective as I am using 3 different sizes of thumbnails. Now, the recent update of Retina also comes with manual cropping of thumbnails (which is great!), but it overrides and disables the functionality of Manual Image Crop and only allows me to either crop all images at once or only the standard size thumbnail. This means that I now cannot crop my manual image sizes, which I find crucial.

I was therefore wondering if you see any immediate manual solution to this issue or if it’s something we can expect a solution to in the next update? If so, then it would be good to know when you expect to release the next update, as if it’s not anytime in the near future, then I’ll look into alternative solutions and test to see if Retina also overrides the functionality of other manual image cropping plugins.

I’ve worked out how to get the functionality of Manual Image Crop back – it had nothing to do with the update of Retina. My apologies… However, I still reckon it would be nice to be able to crop all image sizes through Retina in order to minimise the need of plugins and as cropping of thumbnails is already a feature of Retina…

Sorry, sorry, sorry! I confused the new cropping method of WP to be part of Retina, hence my suggestion of making it possible to crop all images sizes through Retina. It’s obviously a lacking feature of WP and not Retina… I’ll continue as before with a combination of Manual Image Crop and Retina 🙂
