This Tag Is Out of the WordPress Loop

  • “This tag is out of the WordPress loop.”
    I was reading through the documentation on the tags and saw this phrase several times. At the risk of sounding like a total dork, what does this mean?

  • Outside what comes between:
    … foreach ($posts as $post) : start_wp(); ?>
    <?php endforeach; else: ?>

    Thank you! ^_^

    I’m out of the loop most of the time.

    Inside of the WordPress loop, calls are generally made to acquire data on the post. Author, when it was posted, the content itself, it’s geo location…
    Outside of the loop you would typically make calls to get your links, your archives, categories…

    Right… I kinda figured that certain tags were for the content and certain ones were for navigation since I’ve already spent some time working with Blogger. I just thought the actual “out of loop” statement meant it was a tag that they were going to discontinue or something. I didn’t realize they meant loop as in programming loop instead of something else.
    Like Randy said, I was a bit ‘out of the loop’ myself. LOL.
    Thanks for your help!
