Support » Plugin: OneSignal - Web Push Notifications » This service was free you are deceiving company

  • OneSignal was one of many other push notifications startups and the only reason this service gain that fame that it was a free service where webmasters like us can send unlimited notifications to our subscribers for free in exchange for the data they collect for advertisement purposes.

now after we rely on the service and their statement that this service is free, the company started to charge webmasters for their service and the plans are not even fair the first paid plan costs 99 USD/month which is a huge amount of money especially if you are from a developed country like mine.

Moving and migrating your subscribers from the service is another challenge as there is no easy way to do it … at least provide your users with detailed documentation about how they move from your service and keep their subscribers … for a non-technical person like me stuff like FCM/GCM, OneSignal VAPID keys, Player Id which are critical to migrate to other services is totally strange and I don’t understand how to use or find them in my dashboard.

Now I am totally lost I have almost 200K subscribers on onesignal and I don’t know to move them to a new service neither I can’t pay this huge unfair amount of money to a service was supposed to be totally free

We have the same problem. I think we’ll be able to get under the 30k threshold by removing subscribers who aren’t engaged.

I know you’re a business, and need to cover your costs. But going from $0 per month to an estimated $300 per month is a deal-breaker for us. We just absorb that cost at this time.

    Hello,

Thanks for reaching out and for how deeply you care about OneSignal.

You can still send web push notifications for up to 30,000 of your web push subscribers per app at no cost. You can also send unlimited notifications to mobile app subscribers if you have mobile apps.

We will start to charge for subscribers beyond the first 30,000 in order to continue to support you with the reliability and speed you’ve come to expect from OneSignal.

We wanted to always offer a free option, and we believed we could do this because there’s value in user data. However, we now get zero value from web push notification user data – we are not monetizing it. Powering web push notifications for our free users has become exorbitantly expensive, especially for clients (like yourself) who have more than 30,000 subscribers.

We’ve given several weeks notice before we change the policy so you have plenty of time to upgrade or replace OneSignal as your web push subscriber.

We would be happy to discuss options available for you and/or provide you your user data and VAPID keys.

Please contact support@onesignal.com with your site or app id and we would be happy to help!
