Advanced Access Manager
[resolved] This plugin DOES NOT WORK (or maybe I'm not understanding) (4 posts)

So I made several categories for posts:

    Site Updates
       Second Degree
       Third Degree

My goal is to have the Public only see posts in "Public". All members should see "Site Updates" Then they are listed in order. Higher levels can see anything at their level or below, for example Initiate can see Initiate, Dedicant, Site Updates and Public.

I installed (and purchased) Advanced Access Manager. I made a 3 posts: One each in "Third Degree", "Dedicant" and "Site Updates"

I went into Advanced Access Manager, made all the roles. In each one I used all the default settings, except under "posts & taxonomies" I put in the marks for "list", "browse" "posts in xxx" and "list" and "browse" under those two.

Finally, I made a "_Visitor" role -- gave it no access other than the Public category.

Logged out, I see all three posts. Logged in as a user with the dedicant role, I see all three posts.

What did I do wrong? Is this just not going to cut the mustard for what I want to do?

    Hi hendrickx,
It works. You definitely is doing something wrong.
My first question is next - How the posts are rendered? Is it a custom theme?

I'm asking about it because sometime WP developers are not following the standards and use their own way to render posts.

    Ok, tried three themes:

    NewStone (By Terry Lin)
    TwentyEleven (comes with WP)
    TwentyTwelve (comes with WP)

I still see all three posts on the main page when I am logged out. I should have permissions to none of them (as _Visitor role)

Do the checkboxes under "Posts and Taxonomies" hide the posts from these users? Unchecked, the users can see the postings.

OMG I just figured it out. You must check the boxes for the stuff you want to block for that role -- This seems backwards to me, but works perfectly. Why was this not listed ANYWHERE? PLEASE make some documentation and save future users the headache of having to discover this on their own!
