    Hi Folks,

    Today, our development site with a valid Google Maps API key displays an error:

    “This page can’t load Google Maps correctly”:

    Why do I receive a message “for development purposes only” when the API key is valid?

    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Hi Steve,

    Thanks for getting in touch with us and my sincere apologies for the trouble you are experiencing.

    I noticed that there is a 504 error on the link you mentioned and I was unable to debug this issue from my side.

    Would it perhaps be possible to send me a screenshot of the JavaScript console on the page with the map so that I can assist you further and find the cause of the error? On Chrome, the console can be opened by pressing CTRL + SHIFT + J.

    Looking forward to your response and assisting you further.

    Kind regards,
    Dylan

    Had the same problem, still working on a fix…

    Hi there hartmutnz,

    Thank you for getting in touch with us

    Could I kindly ask you for a link to your website so that I can take a closer look at this for you and assist you further?

    Looking forward to your response and helping you further.

    Kind regards,
    Dylan

    Hi Dylan, just found out that google now expects “billing eneabled”, even if embedding maps is free. So once that is done, the API key should work… will try that in the next few days. Find more info here:https://developers.google.com/maps/billing/understanding-cost-of-use

    Hi hartmutnz,

    Thanks for the response.

    Yes, this is due to their new pricing changes made in July.

    Please let me know if you come right with this.

    Thanks.

    Kind regards,
    Dylan

    So how/where do we apply for Maps Static API? And do we have to add it to your plugin settings?

    Hi @creativepassion,

    Here you can find all steps to set up Google Maps and billing: https://www.wpgmaps.com/documentation/creating-a-google-maps-api-key/

    Hope that helps.

    Hi @chrishannon,

    I sincerely apologize for any issues you are having with our plugin.

    Could you send me the URL to the page with map so I’ll take a look into this?

    @jarekcodecabin:

    My apologies if I did not read the thread carefully; I am pretty tired, right now.

    I am not using your plugin. I am using the Siteorigin Pagebuilder plugin, as well as their Siteorigin Widgets Bundle plugin. The issue is with their Google Maps widget. I have been communicating with one of their reps, but we have not been able to resolve the issue, so I thought I would Google the error message I was getting, and your thread popped up in the results.

    I understand if you cannot help me, but I am at a loss as to how to fix this.

    Hi all, I am not the plugin author, but if anyone is using the siteorigin pagebuilder, just install this google maps plugin here and use that. Once you signed up with google billing, you create an API code and insert it into the settings page. Done. It worked for me, and I am using site origin pagebuilder.

    Thanks for the info! Can you give me the specific name of the plugin or the name of the developer?

    @hartmutnz

    I have figured it out. It’s WP Google Maps. I will give it a try and let you know the results.

    @jarekcodecabon:

    Now I am actually using your plugin, based on a recommendation from @hartmutnz.

    I am having a problem with setting up my map. When I try to set up the marker for the map, I get a Maps API Error stating “This API Project is not authorized to use this API.” I have checked all of the common errors and none of them apply to this, as the billing is set up, the card number on file is valid, and it can’t be over the limit since the site has not even been launched yet.

    The temporary URL is latitude504.com/waldrop. I would be happy to send you a screenshot of the error message, if necessary.
