Support » Plugin: WP Encrypt » This may be helpful if you see Challenge request failed for domain

  • Hi all,

This morning when I tried to regenerate the SSL certificates, I failed with a notification says “Challenge request failed for domain”.

I went through this forum and find some useful information that may be helpful for you if you are experiencing something similiar.

Note: I am using a VPS and have a LAMP environment

    1. make sure you have permissions (755) for the directories below (recursively):
    a. Your-website-home-directory/.well-known
    b. Home-of-Your-website-home-directory/letsencrypt

    2. If you have any plugins (like cloudflare) forcing your website from HTTP to HTTPS, then turnthe option off temporary.

    3. Go to Settings–>WORDPRESS URL & WEBSITE URL–> http://your-website.com

    4. Go to wp-encrypt and regenerate the SSL certificates, it should work now!

    5. Go to seetings and change the URLs back to HTTPS:…

    6. If you have any plugins (like cloudflare), forcing your website from HTTP to HTTPS again.

    That’s it!
