  • Thanks Jan Dembowski! I have not seen that action before. And why I was spam ?? LOL

I had just read this post and thought it was all related.

But just now I tried to post this message and got the secure connection failed: thing again.

Well, I managed to duplicate it on three different networks, and two different ISP’s. I’ve also managed to get it to fail when I log in as well as when I try to post. I was not able to duplicate it on any other sites using https that I logged into today.

    – Only happening with Firefox for me (so far)

    – Antivirus and add-ons do not appear to be a factor – and safe mode makes no difference. I was going to try a Firefox “refresh” operation from the troubleshooter menu, but after duplicating it on three machines on two different platforms, I didn’t think it was likely to be of much help.

    – Only seems to happen when there is a fair amount of time between creating a post (such as the time it takes me to type this amount of content) and submitting. I was also able to induce the error by entering my username and password in the login form and then intentionally waiting a couple of minutes before clicking the login button. Oh, well. If something jumps out at me I’ll share the results.

    Stupid, goofy Firefox, anyway.. Ha!

    🙂

Has anybody experienced this issue with another browser? Otherwise this could probably cause the problem? ->

    Firefox Release Notes 46.0.1

Page loading issue related to antivirus software (Bug 1268922)

Details -> Don’t hard-fail cache init on doomed directory removal failure

Perhaps this too – details -> limit number of tries to find unused trash directory

I have just been made aware in slack, that Safari under OSX had shown the same behavior.

So: The only common thread is bbPress.

I hate me too posts, but here I am. Same thing, FF on Ubuntu for me, though I had the same thing in the recent past with FF on Win.

A 2 minute delay from page load is not enough to trigger this, but a 3 minute delay does it every time. Whatever you do, don’t hit the back button after getting the connection failed screen! I did this after composing a long, detailed post and lost the entire thing 🙁

At this point, I don’t think it’s a transient server load issue. The load should be lighter on weekends and it’s been consistent for me over many hours on a Saturday.

    This page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/secure-connection-failed-error-message
claims it is because of outdated TLS mechanisms from the WP site. That is not the case, WP is using TLS 1.2, the current stable spec. 1.3 is still in draft AFAIK. It seems to be some discrepancy between what certificate mechanism FF is expecting and what WP is serving, but why only after a 3+ minute delay? Weird.

    Test post. Firefox 47beta7

(No error). Will wait longer next time.

Test post. (no error). Did have one earlier with 46.0.1.

Test post after 20 mins in another tab. Hmmm.. no error so far with Firefox 47beta7. Same batch of extensions as I have with version 46.

    Test post Firefox 46.0.1

Got the error. Maybe 47 doesn’t have the issue? More testing..

Back in 47 – So far it hasn’t happened to me in Firefox 47 beta 7.

    Maybe 47 doesn’t have the issue? […]
So far it hasn’t happened to me in Firefox 47 beta 7.

Sounds promising, but I guess it isn’t a *general* Firefox v.46 problem, otherwise this thread (or forum) would have a lot more “me too”-postings, don’t you think so?

No idea if this has anything to do with our particular problem, but I checked my settings in FF options > advanced > certificates.
I have the following settings in the certificates tab:

    [x] Ask me every time
[x] Query OCSP responder servers to confirm the current validity of certificates

I’ll uncheck these temporarily before posting this test message.
Not very optimistic, but I’ll give it a try, anyway 😉
BTW, I also tried to “edit trust” for WP.org’s GoDaddy.com certificate in FF’s certificate manager, unfortunately to no avail.

    Result:
    Secure Connection Failed
    Oh, well…

Drat, I forgot to restart Firefox after unchecking the certificates settings mentioned above, sorry about the extra posting needed now. So here we go again after restarting FF and with said settings still unchecked. Lingering a few minutes before posting.

    Result:
    Secure Connection Failed
    …told you I was’t very optimistic 😉

well all is the same here, I have to remember to copy my post before I click ‘post’ and or type it in a text editor and then quickly copy it in.

I’ve never had to retype. Just click Try Again and then resend and it makes the post.

    Lord Jon

Just so you guys know, we are aware of this thread but we’re not having an easy time trying to replicate the errors.
