How does Backup Guard do it? Below what’s been done and why my mind is blown.

    • Tried Duplicator – it times out after 10 minutes
    • I checked total size of my site and it’s 7GIGS Yikes! (cringe)
    • I installed free version of Backup Guard
    • Ran a full backup
    • The archive is only 736MB – Hugh??

How in the heck does Backup Guard compress 7GIGS into 736MB? There’s no way that’s possible. What am I missing? Also how is it that Backup Guard never times out? It makes me think the plugin is skipping over files. How is this possible?

  • Ah! I figured it out.

Backup Guard automatically skips all folders that are not part of the normal WordPress root. After looking at my site’s file structure there’s a good amount of junk folders holding all kinds of nonsense. BA skipped over these folders.

What still perplexes me is Duplicator still times out but Backup Guard never does.
    HOW????

@surge42 We are using reloading techniques which is letting us to not exceed server limitations and successfully complete backup.
