Having same problem. Tried the fix you recommended at core.trac.
Adding the patch line in pluggable.php was no problem but I’m not sure what else and where I should do the other change (in mail.php?).
Would really appreciate some more guidance on this as we are stuck with our Contact Form not working without a solution.

mail.php is part of Unit test. I don’t think you’re running those right now.
Anyway, with 4.6.1, both files will be updated.
Thank you @bobsled. The plug in worked. I don’t even know what it did, but I blindly followed the directions and now my forms are working.
@marco – thanks for the fix. Now it says “Your message was sent successfully. Thanks.” But I don’t receive e-mail. I sent test messsage with easy WP SMTP and received it but I don’t receive from contact form.
Tried that fix, @vasili4, but for some reason, it didn’t work. I did Marco’s fix to the plugin, and that seems to have done the trick. Not sure why the patch didn’t work.
@MAC4x4, just don’t forget to revert it after 4.6.1 is out. You don’t want to leave mail() there
Got it to work using Postman SMTP, 4.6.1 and changing the wp_mail line in the mail.php file.

first recheck your site key and secret key from contact -> intergration
Is this still an issue? I am using the latest version of WordPress, the latest version of Contact Form 7. I’ve tried changing the line in mail.php from wp_mail to mail and removing attachments..and have also installed, activated, configured and tested Postman SMTP and still I’m getting that error message.
