Hi, there.

I’ve just reinstalled Slim Stat, and when I try to install Geolight DB, I get this error message:

“There was an error downloading the MaxMind Geolite DB: Service Unavailable”

I saw another thread where you suggested that possibly someone’s host was blocking this, and I’ve asked my host, Siteground, to look into it. But I doubt it’s them, because I had Slim Stat installed previously (not long ago, and on the same host) and Geolite DB installed fine then.

Do you know of anything else that could be causing it?

Maxmind has said that I’m (or rather the shared server I’m on) not blocked. So maybe it *is* related to a Cloudflare node near me (New Zealand).

Anyway, I don’t want to bother anyone any more than I already have, so I’ve manually uploaded the database to my Slim Stat directory. And Slim Stat is now geolocating. 🙂

Dear chrislt, dear Jason,

I am facing exactly the same problems and tried to upload the file manually. Unfortunately Slim Stat is not geolocating. I guess it uploaded the data to a wrong direcory. So please could you tell me the correct one?

Hi Ulrich,

after you download the file, you will need to unzip it (you might need a third-party tool like 7zip, to uncompress a .gz file). Rename the unzipped file to maxmind.dat and then upload it to

/wp-content/uploads/wp-slimstat/

Let me know if that does the trick,
