Hi @ubuntuvillageusa,
In general, Hummingbird uses the Google Page Speed API to run the performance test. I could notice the website does take time to load which would be one of the aspects for the test to not work.
Could you please try optimizing the website as mentioned in the following doc using the Hummingbird settings:
https://wpmudev.com/docs/wpmu-dev-plugins/hummingbird/#optimization-guide
Then clear the cache and see how that goes?
Looking forward to your response.
Kind Regards,
Nithin
Hi Nithin, I am working on it. I get this error now after performance test says it is completed:
“There was a problem fetching the desktop test results. Please try running a new scan.”
clearing cache and running through optimization instructions again now. be back
Michele
Hi @ubuntuvillageusa
Thank you for the update.
We use the Google API behind the scenes, I can confirm when we test the site directly on Browser > Lighthouse it works, same via https://pagespeed.web.dev/ however, that still sometimes indicates the API is not able to execute in time and then returns a timeout to our API.
Just in case, do you have any firewall plugins?
If so, can you allow the WPMU DEV IPs?
https://wpmudev.com/docs/getting-started/wpmu-dev-ip-addresses/
In case you don’t it seems you host with WordPress.com right? Do you have access to Staging site https://wordpress.com/support/how-to-create-a-staging-site/ for a full plugin and theme conflict test: https://wpmudev.com/docs/getting-started/getting-support/#conflict-test
Let us know the result you got.

Hi @ubuntuvillageusa
Update here, I tried to run 2-3 more times the test to ensure I got the score every time and it seems the site is taking too long:
https://monosnap.com/file/TwkHujQdIRLKWzV8BbZJqSYKgtDGsy
In one of tests the lighthouse didn’t bring any result either: https://monosnap.com/file/y88ywd2CZZSI9ElXztsaD1M6r6uKjM
I believe it is related to your issue, the API is timing out before return the results.
In this case the plugin and theme conflict test is a good idea so you ensure none of plugins or theme are the root cause.
Can you see cached pages in Hummingbird > Caching? It should show the X number of cached pages.
Let us know the result you got.

Hi Patrick,
I added all ip addresses. using staging site now to test plug ins.

Hello Michele,
I hope the suggested tips would help with optimizing the page load, and avoiding timeouts.
In addition, you can try switching off preload caching, which may help when server resources are limited:
