I updated to Jetpack Version 9.9.1 tonight and as soon as I did i started getting There has been a critical error on this website. error messages.

I deactivate it and my site works fine again. I reactivate it and as soon as I went to set up Jetpack the error messages started again.

I have deactivated the plugin again now.

Is there any help or advice you can give please?

    Thanks

Furthermore, my website is much faster now that the plugin has been deactivated…

    The website is: https://www.digdeeprecords.co.uk/

The error message appears when I am editing things in the back end. Also the product page hangs with a circle of death over the Product Data section.

I also updated to the new WordPress tonight but I don’t think that is the issue.

    Hi there,

From what I understand, the update for Jetpack did not complete properly, causing the issue with your website not working. To fix this issue, please log in to your site via FTP or SFTP or cPanel > File Manager and go to the wp-content/plugins/ folder and delete the folder named jetpack.

Once done, your website will likely start working again. After that, please log in to WordPress Admin, reinstall the Jetpack plugin from WordPress Admin > Plugins > Add New, and reconnect Jetpack.

Hi I don’t have access to FTP or SFTP. Is cPanel > File Manager and go to the wp-content/plugins/ this path?

    https://www.digdeeprecords.co.uk/wp-admin/plugins.php

I have now deleted Jetpack from the Plugins from the wp-admin area above.

Will that have deleted the Jetpack folder?

    Thanks Paul

Hi I don’t have access to FTP or SFTP. Is cPanel > File Manager and go to the wp-content/plugins/ this path?

That’s correct, if you use File Manager to go to wp-content/plugins you can delete the Jetpack plugin folder from there. If you don’t see it, then it’s already deleted.

You can then try installing Jetpack again from Plugins > Add New.

If you continue to see errors, there may be another plugin conflicting, so I’d suggest deactivating all plugins and enabling them one by one until you find the conflict.

    Hope that helps!

Hi everything else is running fine but as soon as I add Jetpack back in the site starts crashing again.

I have deleted the jetpack plugin again. I need all the other plugins I have so I can’t delete any of them. Is there anything else you can suggest please?

    Thanks Paul

    Hello @mutdog

I am afraid that you will need to investigate if a plugin or the theme is causing the incompatibility.

Check if everything is updated (WordPress Core, plugins, and the theme). Then, change the theme to a default one (Twenty Twenty One, for example) and activate Jetpack.

I recommend you to check with your hosting support if you have a staging area, and make all the tests on it, to avoid downtime.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    My best regards,

    Michelle C.
