Support » Themes and Templates » Themes won't display after a wordpress migration

  • I built a wordpress site in a sub-directory and then transferred it to the root directory.

I’ve used a search and replace tool to make sure I didn’t have any link issues.

When I go into the WordPress Admin and go to themes. All of the themes show no images. My installed theme and the default ones like twenty eleven, etc. are all blank.

    I’ve deleted and re-installed themes.
    I’ve deactivated all plugins.
My theme has a css file.

I read something about .htaccess so I created that in my godaddy ftp and added it to the root directory with this:
    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ – [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    # END WordPress

    That didn’t do anything.

    Thanks for your help.

    – make sure images are not blocked by hotlink protection, contact your webserver.
    – check path in Admin => Settings => Media
    – make sure wp-content/upload folder is writable (try 766, 767, or 777 permission). Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK

oh another thing that I did if this helps:

I built the wordpress site in a sub-directory and I transferred my files into the root…
I installed these files in a new wordpress install under the main domain. I changed the database so that it pulled all of my content from the one I had worked on and not from the new database that it created.

-Did any of my previous suggestions help?
-Also, have you reviewed this codex guide :

I’m still trying to figure out how to do those things. (I’m obviously a rookie.)

    1. How do I check for “hotlink protection”? I just need to call my host (go daddy) and ask them?

    2. How do I check the path? I look at the code in the FTP under wp-settings.php or I look at it somehow in my wordpress admin?

    3. How do make sure upload folder is writable?

I did review that codex guide before I started migrating but when I changed my url in my wordpress admin I just totally lost access to that functioning wordpress.

That’s why I ended up creating a new WordPress in the root and then transferring files and changing the database that it was pulling from. After that I at least had my content. It’s just not displayed properly.

Maybe my search and replace wasn’t thorough enough? I just replaced with
