 * I thought there were 2 theme sites, one had thousands of them now I cant find
   it anywhere. Did it shut down ?

 * Are you talking about themes.wordpress.net? It seems to have been shut down as
   all URLs are now pointing to the new theme directory here: [http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/](http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/)

 * No, there was another site that had Oh gosh at least a 1000 + themes
 * I thought it was [http://themes.wordpress.com/](http://themes.wordpress.com/)
   but no luck.

 * Why did themes.wordpress.net get taken down? Anyone know? this new method of 
   themes here now is not nearly as good as the older version

 * too many concerns with spammed and sponsored themes. the new link is comprised
   of themes that have been checked for malicious items and work with 2.6
