I have just installed the plugin and did a full compression on all images. It worked on most images but it seems that Theme and Plugin images was not compressed (I am not sure if it's all)

I am using the Responsive Theme and the Form Maker plugin.

    Hi @tgfrules,

Greetings and thanks for posting! :)

The plugin actually works with the media library so any files added through that means should get compressed.

However, it wouldn't be able to compress theme images directly. Those are best done through the theme directly.

We're looking to extend the plugin soon though, so that's something we could take a look into with the developers. I'll be sure to mention it.

I hope that helps, but please feel free to ask if you have any questions. We're happy to assist! :)

    Cheers,
    David

    Thanks for your quick reply.

The reason I picked this plugin was to get rid of the warnings that Google PageSpeed Insights gave me. If the plugin could remove all the warnings I would be very happy.

I am looking forward to future releases.

    Hi there @tgfrules,

Totally understandable, and as a temporary solution, you could try using Smush.it directly. You can specify urls here:
    http://www.smushit.com/ysmush.it/

And get smushed images that way. Then you could copy them back manually to where they're located on your site.

Meanwhile, our developers are always working on great stuff and I'm sure we'll see that update soon enough! :)

    Cheers,
    David

    Hi David

I tried the smushit.com site and I actually found that the 4 images that Google claims can be lossless compressed the smushit site says it can't compress.

I might be doing something wrong but there aren't that many options.

If I am right you should put a "warning" that this plugin might not clear all Googles PageInsights "Optimize images" warnings.

I also realized that an obvious reason why this plugin can't get rid of all warnings is that the image is used wrong on my site.

If I put in an that is 500x500px in size but show in 400x400 (by specifying width="400") Google would advice me to compress it.

I am not sure if that is something that this plugin could handle?

    Hi there @tgfrules,

Thanks for giving that a try and letting me know how that all worked. Unfortunately, it seems this might be one of those cases where Smush.it might not compress the images as well as Google expects.

That does happen. And it's something I'm sure we'll be addressing with our forthcoming update.

In the meantime, there are a bunch of alternatives mentioned here:
    http://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/10-best-image-optimization-plugins-to-speed-up-your-wordpress-site/

Perhaps one of those might work better for now?

    Cheers,
    David

    Hi David

I tried some of the plugins out without much luck to get rid of the last warnings.

It does strike med that some of these plugin could be implemented within the Smush.it plugin to give it even more power. I am thinking the lazy load and SEO one.

    Hi @tgfrules,

Thank you for your reply and feedback.

The WP Smush.it plugin only provides interface in the WordPress to the smush.it service provided by Yahoo. It optimizes images by calling Smush.it APIs so the functionality of it depends on the features provided by Yahoo Smush. It service. you will find more information about it on the following page.

    https://developer.yahoo.com/yslow/smushit/faq.html

Therefore the other optimization plugin functionality won't be implemented in to it.

If we can be of any further assistance please don't hesitate to ask :)

    Cheers,
