• i am completely new at this but i have been reading the forum for help. I downloaded wp 1.2 and it works fine. I saw a site with themes. my blog is at http://www.jayrandall.com/blog. I put a themes directory here and any php file that comes with it. When i run the file, i get all the data but not the theme.

  • There is a major difference between themes in 1.2 and the Themes feature in the upcoming 1.5 version of WordPress.

If the theme you downloaded is for 1.2, if should have provided instructions for what you need to do to use it on your blog. If it’s meant for 1.5…

I used a theme for 1.2. I followed the instructions but i am not certain i put everything into the right directory. My domain has everything at public_html. but i know there is a root directory /, where the www directory is. I created a directory called blog under public_html. I put the themes directory there and the php file in the same area as the existing index.php. The new site opens but i dont get any formatting.
    thanks for your help.

If it mentions a Theme directory, then the theme you are trying to use is for WP v1.5b, it will not work in WP v1.2.2. For v1.2.2 themes, look here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic.php?id=20279

thanks…since you mentioned 1.5 and im just starting, should i upgrade? The site you just mentioned says on a few places 1.2 themes. Is that a mistake or do they just mean layouts.

No, do not upgrade to v1.5b if you’re just starting. v1.5b is only recommended for those who have substantial PHP and MySQL experience.
