 * Heeeeeeeeellllp!
 * We aren’t programmers. We sell wax 🙂
 * We went to our site this morning and saw it had completely changed overnight!
 * We emailed our original programmer who told us that there was a “Simple theme
   update” and that’s what happens….?????
    WHAT!!!!!!!!!!
 * Is there a way to revert back? Our pages are all still there but the entire set-
   up is different! Even our top banner went poof!
 * Any help would be MOST Appreciated! This couldn’t happen at a worse time! Final
   two days for our customers to order to get our product before Christmas and our
   site doesn’t even “look like us”!!!
 * If we update the back-up we have it’ll be outdated enough to cause headaches
   but we could manage.
    THANK YOUUUUUuuuu!
 * Kimberly

 * This one bit one of my clients as well. This should have been pushed as a new
   theme and not an “update”. A pretty easy fix is to download the previous version
   of the theme, [WP Simple 1.3.5](https://downloads.wordpress.org/theme/wp-simple.1.3.5.zip).
   Rename (or remove) the existing version 2.0.2 WP-Simple folder, then upload 1.3.5.
   Then don’t update from 1.3.5 to 2.0.x. until you have time to sort out all of
   the changes.

 * Bit?…. heck, This is full on CHOMPED!
 * Thank YOU tfight for the reply.
    I have little/no idea of what I’m doing so bear
   with me. I am in cpanel file manager/themes. I see several themes. I tried to
   renamed wp-simple to wp-simple-old but it won’t let me. I deleted the files in
   that directory though
 * next?

 * I uploaded the 1.3.5. it “sort of” brought back our front page, but there is
   an error I have NO idea what it means or what to do.
 * “Fatal error: Call to undefined function shailan_dropdown_menu() in /home/moustachetamer/
   public_html/wp-content/themes/wp-simple/parts/menu.php on line 5

 * Next would therefore be to unzip the file I linked to above (1.3.5) and replace
   the files inside your wp-simple directory on the server with the contents of
   the wp-simple folder in the zip file, after extracting.
 * So…..
 * 1) Download the zip file I linked to above.
    2) Unzip that file. 3) That should
   give you a wp-simple folder on your computer, upload the contents of that folder
   into the wp-simple directory on your server.
 * Alternatively….
 * 1) Select a different theme for your site, temporarily.
    2) Select ‘theme details’
   on the broken wp-simple theme. 3) Delete the wp-simple theme. 4) Go to ‘Add New’
   in themese, then select ‘Upload Theme’. 5) Select the zip file I linked to above,
   upload, and activate the 1.3.5 version of the theme.

   TY TY TY!!!!!!
 * So far so good except that it looks like some of our widgets went poof though.
   None after 9 in our list. hmmmmm
    We’ll have to re-create them I guess. a small
   price to pay.
 * You’re a good Elf!!!! Please feel free to have 2 extra goodies AFTER you’ve had
   your dinner. You deserve it for your good deed.

 * This wasn’t the fault of WordPress, this was the fault of the theme developer
   who pushed a breaking update.

 * OMG!
 * After spending most of yesterday doing the steps above everything looked wonderful
   and our site was back to normal.
 * Then I looked this morning and the site is right back to where it was yesterday!
   MESSED UP!
    Everything I did got overwritten overnight? Maybe I didn’t check
   some box that would DIS-able auto updating? Nimmmm-Bussssssssssss! You’re killin’
   Me! / Us.

 * Themes generally don’t auto-update. So either some sort of process is setup specifically
   to auto update your theme, or someone clicked the update button.

 * nope.
    grrrrrrrr
 * It also deleted most of the widgets I had recreated too 🙁
 * I’m trying right now to figure out why there is a huge white area at the bottom
   of all of the pages and there’s a few widgets in there.
 * o, btw…. morning tflight lol

 * ok, this is no longer just an inconvenience.
 * I checked in this morning and again, the site had reverted to the “new” Simple
   Theme, making our website look terrible.
 * I’ve become proficient in deleting the directory and uploading the 1.3.5 version
   to get back to normal but this can’t continue.
 * How can this be stopped?
 * We’re now getting emails from clients customers and visitors to our site asking“
   what the heck is going on” type questions.
 * Kendall! Evan!!!! NIMBUS!…. HELP! You’re Killin’ Me/Us!!!

 * Hi MoustacheTamer,
 * There is some kind of secondary update process running on your site other than
   the main update api for themes. Updates should only happen when you manually
   take action. Turning this off if possible would be a good first step. If not,
   you could access the theme files before you load the update and open style.css
   and change the name of the theme to something unique. Adding the name of your
   business after the old name would be fine. This will break the link via the update
   api.
 * I’m very sorry for the inconvenience. WordPress.org changed the requirements
   for themes that meant that we could no longer use our options panel and needed
   to switch to the WordPress core customizer. This meant that we had to totally
   redo the backend of the site. Our goal was to keep the basic feel of the Simple
   Theme but modernize the front end while we converted to the customizer. I know
   it’s a big change but I hope you’ll be able to fix the update issue or even give
   the new customizer version a try.
