Make a child theme and come back and post a link to your site and someone can help you.

I really can’t understand why there is no plain and simple direction how to do that.

If it’s a customisation then it is unlikely that the developers could have envisaged this.

Some people are giving links to CSS manualls.

If the issue involved customising CSS, then those suggestions were correct and would involve learning CSS.

I believe 80% of WP users are just user. Not programmers.

Even if that were 100% that does not get away from WordPress being built on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and SQL. You don’t have to touch the code, you can stick with what themes and plugins give you. If you want to customise a theme then you should be willing to get your hands dirty.

You ought to compromise between learning HTML and CSS yourself and hiring someone to do the work for you, because what you’re asking for sounds like a customisation.

Here’s the other thing – everything here on WordPress.ORG is 100% volunteer – so not every possible things gets done – including documenting every customization for a theme. In fact, many of use who spend HOURS helping people for FREE, could, instead, spend time working on the Codex… But that would leave many more threads here unanswered.

Of course, the best solution would be for more people to pitch in – however they can :).

Personally, I’d say that the whole point of a customisation is that…well.. it’s custom. Specific to you & your site. Even with just one theme, the possibilities are theoretically endless. There’s absolutely no way we could document all of them – even if we worked on it full time.

All that is correct. But I really hate when someone says for something like this CSS knowledge is required. For me that sounds like “if you want to have site learn HTML and CSS”.
On that I say if someone technical is not willing to help please don’t give solution such as “learn CSS”. An this is the reason I am angry.
Wordpress exist so that non-technical people can make site on their own.

As I said I really appreciate WordPress community and all efforts. That is the reason I googled for couple of hours before posting here.

I don’t think this is specific. This is really very often request and question. If I found the way to do this I will post solution here.

I made child theme and it is working.

On one page I found suggestion to place this code in custm CSS

    #header { background: url(http://mydomain.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/image1.png); }

When I put it in CSS I get image but it is above site title.

And the site? There’s no way to help with CSS without seeing the site live.

Where is the code for the background image? I would like a hyperlink for the background image when it is moused over. zega.co

    Where can I do this?
