[Theme Twenty Fourteen] White space above page – how do I remove it for blog

  • I can see there is a 72px padding for the pages. That looks really good and it makes the site nice.

    However: I have set up a blog page. It is on the menu bar and when you click on it,it goes to my latest post.

    It still acts as a page and therefore puts the white padding in and then does the first blog post. So I have a white gap between the header and the image.

    I think I have seen the CSS which controls the padding. I do not want to get rid of it as it’s nice.

    I’ve tried making a different template for the blog page and putting in CSS to get rid of it but that did not work.

    Any advice? All I want is people to access my blog through a menu item and go to the post without seeing a white space.

    Thanks

    One white space

    http://www.scratchmypi.co.uk/blog/

    You can see there is a white gap between the header and the image. It’s there for all the pages but I don’t want it on this page.

    Use the following in custom.css or childtheme

    body.blog .content-area, .content-sidebar {
    padding-top: 0px;
    }

    I tried that but it doesn’t work. I think it has something to do with media screen size.

    But I have learnt about child themes.

    If you want it only for that page you need the page ID.

    PAGE ID .content-area{
    padding-top: 0px;
    }

    I unfortunately don’t know how to determine that, maybe salsaturation can help with that.

    Where did you place the code as it is not included in you css source anywhere? If you used custom css or a child-theme the code will be executed after the main css media queries so that should not affect it

    Also a slight change to the code to remove a redundant element

    body.blog .content-area  {
    padding-top: 0px;
    }

    if you want to target specific pages or post you use the following examples

    body.page-id-59

    or

    body.postid-559

    So, it looks like the techs at Word Press cannot come up with a solution? I have the same problem.

    See that large space between the first article and the bottom of the header? I cannot figure out how to remove it.
    I tried the above suggestions… Cannot even find a file called “Use the following in custom.css or childtheme”

    In the admin, I clicked edit and looked for the above stated files .css… nothing found.
    Help please. Love the new theme!!!! Awesome!!!

    @ akhdrider

    I tried the above suggestions… Cannot even find a file called “Use the following in custom.css or childtheme”

    That statement is incorrect so the best thing for you to do is to install a plugin like custom CSS plugin then add the following to the custom css area.

    body.blog .content-area  {
    padding-top: 0px;
    }

    Thank you SO MUCH Salsaturation…

    So, to fix the problem…
    Go to THIS LINK

    OR Simply in your WordPress Website Administration,
    Add New Plugin, Key in “Custom CSS Manager”.
    Install and activate that.
    Then browse to your APPEARANCE in your Admin, go down to Custom Css and enter the code:

    body.blog .content-area {
    padding-top: 0px;
    }

    Save it and BAM! The problem is solved.

    My question. Is there any way to get WordPress to do an update to the theme which cures this problem?
    Thanks again!

    This is as per design – I think alot of people like the gap while some don’t. You can always create a Child_Themes

    I have the same problem since yesterday by blog shows a big white space above the header. my site is http://www.central-monterrico.com/

    can someone help please thank you!

    Hi CECIMONTA

    I had a quick look at your site and could not see the issue so I assume you have managed to resolve it!

    thanks salsaturation for your reply

    I had my site changed of theme so that the blank space stopped appearing on top of my pages.

    Again I have set up the twenty fourteen theme so that you can see the problem i have with my site.

    Could you please check my site again http://www.central-monterrico.com/
