Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. First create a child theme for your changes.

I can’t work with childthemes because I’m a noob. I have read so many instructions, but still don’t get it. So I write down all my changes in Word and repeat them after an update.

Does anyone know the solutions @ my questions? 😀

Thanks, what should I do after downloading? Where do I have to upload it?

And when I upload it, my website won’t be messed up right? My website will be the same as now..?

Unpack the archive and upload the folder to wp-content/themes using FTP or use whatever file management application your host provides. Then activate it and start customising/configuring it.

Ok, how do I activate it? won’t my current website be messed up after activating? And I have to customise it via notepad or something?

    how do I activate it?

The same as any other theme – via Appearance -> Themes.

won’t my current website be messed up after activating?

No. You will just have to set up any custom background, header and/or menus again as these are stored on a pre-theme basis.

And I have to customise it via notepad or something?

Yes – although you can also use Appearance -> Editor (not an approach I personally recommend).

No. You will just have to set up any custom background, header and/or menus again as these are stored on a pre-theme basis.

Lol okay, so that’s kinda everything? I have a different banner on each page / every newsarticle. :s I can remove the childtheme whenever I want, so my normal site is back normal?

I have a different banner on each page / every newsarticle.

Assuming that you are using the featured image functionality for this, this will still work in the child theme. You won’t have to set them up again.

Do I have to change anything in the documents before I upload it? Because the link you sent me only shows documents with text, no CSS or something.

Oh and I won’t lose my texts right? And all my articles?

Ok nevermind, done! Thank you Esmi!!!

I have one more question about childtheme. I made several changes in the normal theme, now I have my childtheme, the changes are still on my website. Has my childtheme copied them? I mean, are my changes save when I update WordPress or something? Or do I have to put all the changes in the document I uploaded?

Now time to change everything :p Should I make a new topic with my questions? ;’)

What you need to do now is move just your changes across to the child theme. Do you know exactly what changes you made?

Ehm I copied the whole CSS, that’s not right I guess? :p I know almost all the changes yes. What should I do with changes in which I removed a code?

Nope. You want just your customised CSS in the child’s stylesheet – after the @import line.
